Occupational contact urticaria caused by polyvinylchloride gloves.

چکیده
Allergy to natural rubber latex (NRL) gloves in healthcare workers is well recognized, and usually presents as immunological contact urticaria and sometimes anaphylaxis. Latex gloves can also cause allergic contact dermatitis, mostly because of rubber accelerators. As latex sensitivity is well known in healthcare settings, synthetic latex-free gloves are widely used. The most popular latexfree gloves are made of nitrile, polyvinylchloride (PVC), neoprene, or polyethylene. Only a few cases of contact urticaria caused by synthetic rubber or plastic materials have been reported. We describe a case of occupational contact urticaria caused by PVC gloves.

Occupational allergy due to seafood delivery: Case report
BACKGROUND Sensitization to fish or crustaceans requires intensive skin contact and/or airway exposition and therefore especially workers in the seafood processing industry may develop an occupational seafood allergy. However, even in jobs with limited direct exposure, individuals with atopic disposition not using appropriate skin protection are at risk for developing occupational seafood aller...

متن کاملIn vivo testing of the protection provided by non-latex gloves against a 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate-containing acetone-based dentin-bonding product.
In dentistry, allergic contact dermatitis to acrylates and allergic contact urticaria to latex are important occupational hazards. There is a need to identify non-latex gloves which are suitable for dental work but at the same time provide adequate protection against acrylate monomers. In a previous study, a new open-chamber system was used for testing the in vivo protection of 6 different glov...
متن کاملA review of current literature on epidemiology of immediate glove irritation and latex allergy.
Natural rubber latex (NRL) allergy has attained world-wide importance with the diagnosis of glove hypersensitivity, contact urticaria, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, asthma and anaphylaxis. In the present report, the latest literature of the epidemiology of NRL allergy is reviewed, an account on the incidence of NRL allergy (19 new cases of contact urticaria/100,000 workers per year) among health ca...
متن کاملBronchial provocation testing in the diagnosis of occupational asthma due to latex surgical gloves.
In sensitized subjects, provocation tests to latex may induce severe systemic reactions and even anaphylactic shock. It is probable that part of the risk is due to the difficulty in grading the stimulating dose and in starting from very low levels of exposure. To identify the aetiological agent of work-related asthma in four nurses with previous allergic contact urticaria to latex surgical glov...
